  Betting OWNER PROFILE
James Archibald Cassidy was the owner of a Whiskey distillery in Monasterevin (formerly known as Monasterevan) a small town south of Dublin in County Kildare which first opened in 1784. The distillery had extensive stables built within its grounds to house Cassidy's many racehorses. The distillery famously paid its workers in tokens which were known as Turf Tokens. James had his first runner in the 1876 Irish Derby when The Deer finished third. He followed this with a second place with Venice in 1878, was unplaced in 1879 with Miser and then won his first Irish Derby in 1881 with Master Ned (SR 1950). It was not long before he gained his second success the next year with Sortie (SR 1906). The distillery eventually closed in 1921.
